Job Purpose
The Project Technical Specialist will be recruited to provide essential support to FAO Yemen in the effective implementation of the GEF7 project. The specialist will contribute technical expertise and guidance throughout the project lifecycle, facilitating collaboration and ensuring successful project outcomes within the Yemeni context.
Responsibilities
The Project Technical Specialist will conduct comprehensive reviews of proposed project activities to ensure alignment with project objectives, providing technical expertise to refine these activities. The role involves integrating scientific and technical knowledge into project execution and ensuring effective partnership and communication between the FAO project team and key partners, including government ministries. Responsibilities include providing technical support for project reports (PPR, PIR, final reports), resolving implementation challenges, addressing stakeholder concerns, and preparing action plans for capacity development. The specialist will attend project meetings, contribute to annual reporting to the GEF, review terms of reference for implementation partners, organize steering committee meetings, and collaborate with the project manager to review the quality of technical deliverables.
Work Experience
A minimum of five years of relevant professional experience in natural resources management and climate change adaptation is required. This experience should complement an advanced university degree in a related field. Proficiency in both written and spoken English and Arabic is necessary. Candidates must also hold Yemeni nationality or possess a valid work permit for residency in the country.

Essential technical skills involve a background in policymaking or providing guidance on environment and climate change mitigation. Excellent communication, writing, and presentation skills in English are required, along with demonstrated experience in climate change mitigation activities. Familiarity with UN/INGO systems and procedures is beneficial. Experience in conflict-affected countries is a strong asset. The ability to present complex topics to diverse audiences is also crucial.
