Job Purpose
The Programme Officer will offer strategic and operational support to the Office of the DDG, focusing on key organizational priorities, special initiatives, and flagship programmes. This role involves fostering collaboration across various FAO units and with external partners. The officer will be instrumental in developing, implementing, monitoring, and evaluating assigned programmes and projects. Key functions include analyzing programme development, identifying issues, proposing solutions, liaising with stakeholders, and tracking follow-up actions. The position also supports policy development, impact studies, and the preparation of various written outputs, including background papers and reports.
Responsibilities
The Programme Officer will provide strategic and policy support for special initiatives and events managed by the DDG, including chairmanship and championship roles. This includes coordinating the development, management, implementation, and monitoring of DDG-led initiatives in collaboration with relevant FAO units and external partners. The role involves contributing to leading FAO MuNe Network initiatives, such as the FAO Villages Recognition Initiative, in close partnership with the Office of Communications and other stakeholders. Additionally, the officer will support the preparation and organization of the annual Global Working Conference of FAO Representatives and contribute to the strategic coordination of Decentralized Offices as needed. The position also entails contributing to 'Four Betters' activities, specifically Better Life initiatives, and preparing presentations for communication and advocacy efforts.
Work Experience
Several years of relevant professional experience in programme development, implementation, and monitoring, preferably within an international organization or a related field.
Skills
Proven ability to provide strategic and operational support, coordinate complex initiatives, and foster collaboration. Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills, with experience in policy development and report writing. Familiarity with budget and funding coordination is essential. Experience in leading network initiatives and organizing international conferences is desirable.
