Organizational Context
The Joint FAO/IAEA Centre of Nuclear Techniques in Food and Agriculture (CJN) supports Member States in leveraging nuclear techniques and related technologies to enhance food security, reduce poverty, and foster sustainable agricultural practices. The Centre comprises five Sections, each with a dedicated laboratory, focusing on areas such as animal production and health, plant breeding, insect pest control, soil and water management, and food safety. This position is situated within the Director's office in Vienna, Austria.
Job Purpose
The Young Professional Officer (Programme Support) plays a crucial role in assisting with the development, implementation, and monitoring of assigned projects. This involves supporting operational and financial activities, creating communication and outreach materials, coordinating events, and managing knowledge. The role also encompasses providing essential support for daily operations, including document management, budget tracking, data analysis, and process streamlining. The primary outcome is to deliver research, technical analysis, and project-related services that contribute to the successful execution of projects, products, and services within the Centre.
Responsibilities
The Young Professional Officer (Programme Support) will analyze technical, social, economic, environmental, and technological information, data, and statistics for various documents. Responsibilities include maintaining records, updating databases and web pages, and providing technical support to projects. The role involves collaborating on training materials and organizing workshops/seminars, as well as participating in the organization and follow-up of meetings, consultations, and conferences. Specific functions include assisting in drafting project proposals, supporting partnership development and resource mobilization, contributing to communication materials, and organizing events like webinars and exhibitions. Financial planning support, including expenditure monitoring and variance analysis, is also required, alongside coordinating travel and meeting plans and ensuring quality checks for documentation from the Director's office.
Work Experience
One year of relevant experience is required in budget and project planning, project coordination and monitoring, and outreach activities, including experience gained at the international level. Experience in more than one work location or area, particularly in field positions, is desirable. Experience in collecting, analyzing, and summarizing technical information and data, as well as collecting and analyzing statistical data for report preparation, is also beneficial.
Skills
The role requires strong analytical skills for handling large datasets and familiarity with knowledge management principles. Experience in project development, implementation, and reporting is essential. Skills in partnership development and resource mobilization are considered an asset. Candidates should demonstrate proficiency in English (Level C) and intermediate knowledge of another FAO official language (Level B). Competencies include Results Focus, Teamwork, Communication, Building Effective Relationships, and Knowledge Sharing and Continuous Improvement.
