ANIMAL (LIVESTOCK) PRODUCTION FFS SPECIALIST

Organizational Context

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) is implementing the EU-funded PLACE project in Kenya, aiming to develop sustainable, climate-resilient pastoral systems and improve livelihoods. The project spans three clusters and involves direct delivery, partnerships via Letters of Agreement, and private sector engagement. While the Project Focal Point manages the Kenya component, human resources are shared across multiple programmes. The position is based in the FAO Country Office in Kenya at the SC6 level.

Job Purpose

The Animal (Livestock) Production FFS Specialist will coordinate and implement project activities according to the work plan and budget. Reporting to the PLACE Project Focal Point, under the overall supervision of the FAO Representative in Kenya, Assistant FAOR – Programme, and Programme Manager for Resilient Livelihoods and Climate Change (RL&CC), the specialist will support the PLACE project across its three clusters. This role includes assisting the RL&CC Sub-Programme Lead in enhancing sub-programme capacity to achieve high standards of excellence, ensuring effective project delivery and alignment with objectives.

Responsibilities

Coordinate and communicate with County Provided Human Resources (CPHR) across three clusters, in consultation with cluster affiliates and the EU project focal point. Oversee the implementation and reporting of field actions and context monitoring by CPHR post-training. Ensure timely input of ongoing activities into monitoring tools, collaborating with the RTEA-MEAL officer. Plan and coordinate mobilization for trainings and workshops supporting the PLACE project pillars. Support regular beneficiary data entry and updates into the Project Activity EU reporting and KOBO M&E tool. Assist with field project implementation in collaboration with cluster affiliates and as directed by the project lead. Organize cluster-based and joint cluster meetings, preparing minutes and action points. Support the development of RFPs and LoAs as guided by the EU PLACE Kenya focal officer and cluster affiliates. Assist in procuring animal health inputs, including developing technical specifications and evaluating bidders. Monitor LoA implementation as directed. Serve as the PLACE Grant facility focal person, providing technical and coordination support to the SME Grant Facility. Perform other assigned duties.

Work Experience

A minimum of three years of relevant experience in livestock health and/or animal production is required, preferably with a Bachelor's degree in Animal Health and Production. Experience in coordinating and organizing trainings, workshops, and community meetings, including with cooperatives, is beneficial. Knowledge of gender-, youth-, and conflict-sensitive programming is desirable. Previous experience working with government, UN agencies, international NGOs, or development partners is an advantage.
