Organizational Context

The International Treaty on Plant Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture (ITPGRFA), adopted in 2001, aims to conserve and sustainably use plant genetic resources and ensure equitable benefit sharing. The Benefit-sharing Fund (BSF) supports projects in developing countries to improve livelihoods, food security, and climate change adaptation through enhanced on-farm management of plant genetic diversity and strengthened local value chains. The BSF project in Brazil focuses on strengthening agrobiodiversity conservation, management, and sustainable use, emphasizing in situ and on-farm approaches.

Job Purpose

This assignment focuses on communication, visibility, and knowledge management for a national, multi-institutional project in Brazil. The role involves coordinating communication networks, developing institutional and journalistic content, supporting digital communication tools, and disseminating project results and lessons learned. A key aspect is ensuring effective communication to policy-makers, partners, and other stakeholders, with a specific emphasis on agrobiodiversity conservation across Brazil's diverse biomes. The goal is to enhance the project's reach and impact through strategic communication efforts.

Responsibilities

The incumbent will establish and maintain a support network among communication centers of participating Embrapa research units, coordinating joint communication actions for a unified project narrative. Responsibilities include producing high-quality journalistic content (articles, news releases) on project activities like Community Seed Banks and conservation in Indigenous Lands. The role involves contributing content to various channels (websites, newsletters, social media), assisting with the project's web landing page, and supporting the dissemination of results and lessons learned to national policy-makers and stakeholders. Ensuring FAO's visibility, monitoring media outreach, and reporting on outcomes are also key. Additionally, the incumbent will deliver and manage audiovisual assets, organize and store photo/video records with metadata, and secure image use consent forms, ensuring compliance with FAO standards and guidelines for communications, video, and photo production.

Work Experience

A minimum of 3 years of professional experience in institutional communication, journalism, or knowledge dissemination is required. Experience in producing written content for institutional purposes, developing content for multiple communication channels, and familiarity with digital communication tools are essential. Experience related to agriculture, biodiversity, environment, or rural development is advantageous. Previous experience with the United Nations or international cooperation projects is desirable.

Skills

Proven experience in producing written content (articles, news releases, reports) and developing content for websites, newsletters, and social media. Familiarity with digital communication tools. Ability to support communication alignment and institutional visibility. Experience in communication related to agriculture, biodiversity, environment, or rural development is beneficial. Photography and/or video production skills are desirable. Strong results focus, teamwork, communication, relationship building, and knowledge sharing capabilities are expected.
