Job Purpose
The Field Animal Health Specialist will focus on animal health, disease surveillance, and control, contributing to capacity development initiatives. This role involves providing technical support for the One Health approach and executing various animal health project activities. The specialist will be instrumental in enhancing animal health systems within FAO's intervention areas, ensuring effective disease management and promoting sustainable livestock practices to achieve project objectives and contribute to the broader goals of food security and agricultural development in Egypt.
Responsibilities
Support the planning, implementation, monitoring, and reporting of animal health and livestock activities for the AICS-funded project "Tackling Climate Change Through Sustainable Livestock Management." Conduct field assessments to identify animal health priorities, assist in disease surveillance, vaccination campaigns, outbreak investigations, and emergency response. Promote good animal husbandry, biosecurity, animal welfare, antimicrobial stewardship, and the One Health approach through field interventions and guidance. Organize and deliver training and capacity-building activities for various stakeholders, developing necessary materials. Coordinate with government bodies, veterinary authorities, research institutions, and partners for effective project implementation. Monitor field activities, collect and analyze data, contribute to M&E, and prepare technical reports. Assist in developing work plans, technical specifications, and procurement documents. Support the organization of technical meetings and workshops, performing other assigned duties.
Work Experience
Requires at least 5 years of experience in sustainable animal health and livestock activities. A university degree in veterinary sciences, animal health, or a related field is essential. Proficiency in Arabic (Level C) and a working knowledge of English (Level B) are also required. The position is open to Egyptian nationals.
