Organizational Context

The Deputy Director-General, Natural Resources and Sustainable Production (DDCN) oversees several technical units, including those focused on climate change, biodiversity, environment, fisheries, forestry, and animal production and health. This position is based at FAO headquarters in Rome, Italy.
Job Purpose
The Young Professional Officer (Communication and Outreach) will support the planning, development, and execution of communication and outreach initiatives for the Deputy Director-General, Natural Resources and Sustainable Production (DDCN). This role involves assisting in the creation of communication materials, supporting digital communication efforts, coordinating events, and contributing to monitoring and reporting activities. The incumbent will work closely with the DDCN Communications Officer and the Office of Communications (OCC) to maintain communication and knowledge-sharing resources. The position aims to provide research, technical analysis, and project-related services to support the delivery of assigned projects, products, and services within the DDCN mandate.
Responsibilities
The Young Professional Officer will support the Communications Officer in planning, coordinating, and implementing communication and outreach materials and products for DDCN, adhering to FAO's corporate communication policies. This includes assisting in the design, drafting, editing, and delivery of high-quality communication products for the Deputy Director-General, such as articles, statements, briefing notes, speeches, and reports, tailored to specific audiences. The role involves developing audience-led communication campaigns and messaging across various channels. Additionally, the incumbent will support the organization and delivery of events like webinars and panels, compile communication metrics and analytics, and contribute to performance reports. The position also entails analyzing relevant technical, social, economic, environmental, and technology information, maintaining databases and web pages, and providing technical support to projects.
Work Experience
One year of relevant experience in communication and outreach activities, including at the international level, is required. Experience in developing communication and outreach products and plans, organizing and coordinating events, and collecting/analyzing technical data is desirable. Familiarity with knowledge management and performance reporting is also beneficial.
Skills
Key skills include strong communication and writing abilities, particularly in a deadline-driven environment. Experience in developing communication strategies, creating diverse communication products, and coordinating events is essential. The ability to analyze and summarize technical reports and data accurately is important. Familiarity with knowledge management and performance reporting systems is advantageous. Experience in sustainable development issues relevant to FAO's work is an asset. Proficiency in English is required, with intermediate knowledge of another FAO official language.
