Organizational Context
The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) supports the transformation to efficient, inclusive, resilient, and sustainable agrifood systems to improve production, nutrition, the environment, and quality of life. The FAO Investment Centre (CFI) provides investment and finance solutions, working in over 120 countries to support FAO Members. CFI partners with governments, financing institutions, the private sector, and research bodies to enhance agrifood investment. Its work encompasses strategic investment planning, public and private investment, and innovative finance, complemented by knowledge sharing and capacity development programs.
Job Purpose
The Director of the FAO Investment Centre reports to the Deputy Director-General and is responsible for planning, organizing, and managing the Division's program and staff. This role involves providing strategic vision, guidance, and quality assurance for FAO's investment support initiatives. The Director will coordinate the program of work, ensuring technical quality and effective implementation. They will manage the Division's budget, oversee progress monitoring and reporting, and ensure alignment with FAO's Strategic Framework and results-based management principles. The position requires extensive liaison and coordination with Member Nations, international financing institutions, UN agencies, and other bodies, providing advice and support on program work, technical requirements, capacity development, and knowledge products.
Responsibilities
The Director will ensure the formulation of large and complex field projects and programs in cooperation with other FAO divisions and offices, developing and supporting priority action programs. They will advise the Deputy Director-General and other FAO entities on matters within the Division's competence. Collaboration with member countries, international financing institutions, development partners, UN agencies, and the private sector is crucial for promoting public and private investments in food security, agriculture, and rural development. The Director will represent FAO in high-level meetings and events relevant to the Division's mandate and areas of work, demonstrating intellectual, managerial, and technical leadership.
Work Experience
A minimum of fifteen years of extensive experience is required in planning and managing agricultural and rural development projects and programs in developing countries. Familiarity with the policies and procedures of major international financing and development partners, such as the Global Environment Facility (GEF) and the Green Climate Fund (GCF), is essential. Proven intellectual, managerial, and technical leadership in relevant subject areas is also required.
