Job Purpose
The National Project Coordinator will provide programme development, coordination, and operational assistance within the FAO Representation in Tonga. This role requires a deep understanding of local conditions, culture, language, and institutions to effectively support FAO's mandate and activities in the country. The coordinator will contribute to the formulation and implementation of projects, ensuring alignment with national priorities and FAO's strategic framework, ultimately aiming to enhance agricultural development and food systems transformation in Tonga.
Responsibilities
The National Project Coordinator will liaise with government authorities and national/international institutions, representing FAO at interagency meetings as needed. Responsibilities include promoting FAO's image and mandate, coordinating country data collection on food and agriculture, and contributing to policy studies and development frameworks like the CPF and UNSDCF. The role involves identifying, formulating, and monitoring programme and project proposals, ensuring timely implementation and proposing corrective measures for operational constraints. Additionally, the coordinator will lead the Programme Unit, oversee project implementation, support resource mobilization, strengthen partnerships with various stakeholders, promote gender equality in programming, and provide policy and technical advice to government counterparts. Guidance on reporting, documentation, and compliance with FAO procedures will also be provided to programme staff.
Work Experience
A minimum of five years of relevant experience in public and/or private sectors is necessary. This experience should be related to programming, planning, technical cooperation in food and agriculture, and/or project implementation within FAO's areas of activity in the country.
Skills
Key competencies include Results Focus, Teamwork, Communication, Building Effective Relationships, and Knowledge Sharing and Continuous Improvement. A working knowledge of English is also essential for this role.
