African Small Island Developing States (SIDS) face unique vulnerabilities. The FAO African SIDS Programme, launched in December 2022, is an initiative to strengthen agrifood systems by addressing shared challenges and opportunities in these regions. Key highlights include establishing an Interregional Technical Network (ITN) and defining six priority areas for agrifood systems development.
Job Purpose
This role focuses on advancing agrifood systems through capacity building, coaching, and private sector engagement. It involves resource mobilization, tracking investments, managing agribusiness value chains, and facilitating partnerships. The position requires expertise in investment notes, reporting, and engaging communication to support the FAO African SIDS Programme's objectives. The incumbent will contribute to the programme's dynamic acceleration initiative by tackling shared challenges and unlocking opportunities within the SIDS context.
Responsibilities
The National Technical Coordinator will be responsible for strategic planning, project-wide coordination, and periodic reporting. This includes coordinating the Interregional Technical Network (ITN), national coordination, and capacity development efforts. The role also involves coordinating the Agrifood Public–Private Partnership Coalition (AgriPP) and maintaining an investment tracker. Additionally, the coordinator will deliver a results-focused Coaching Programme, facilitate synergies between PRESAN and the Hand-in-Hand Initiative, and manage the documentation and promotion of SIDS Innovative Solutions. Support for project capitalization and ensuring project closure readiness are also key duties.
Work Experience
A minimum of 10 years of relevant experience is necessary, specifically in project monitoring, programme management, or policy analysis, preferably within the agricultural sector. This experience should align with the advanced degree requirements.
Skills
Essential skills include strong project management and organizational abilities, computer literacy, and the capacity to provide team leadership and motivation.
