Project Coordinator
Organizational Context
The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) is implementing a project in Sri Lanka, in collaboration with the Ministry of Fisheries and NAQDA, to restore the livelihoods of inland fishers affected by Cyclone Ditwah. The project focuses on Ampara, Batticaloa, and Trincomalee districts, supporting reservoir restocking, cage installations, hatchery operations, and capacity building for fishers and community organizations to enhance resilient and sustainable inland fisheries.
Job Purpose
The Project Coordinator will provide essential day-to-day technical and operational support for the "Strengthening Resilience of Inland Fisheries Affected by the Cyclone" project. This involves collaborating with NAQDA, government institutions, and stakeholders to implement and monitor fisheries and aquaculture activities, including restocking, cage and net installations, hatchery operations, and capacity-building initiatives. The role requires close coordination with various officials, contractors, and community members to ensure smooth project execution, achievement of targets, and timely completion of activities in accordance with project requirements.
Responsibilities
The Project Coordinator will support the planning and coordination of project activities, manage logistics, scheduling, and field missions. Responsibilities include coordinating with government agencies, vendors, and partners, and assisting with procurement processes and tracking project inputs. The role involves maintaining comprehensive project documentation and records of all technical field activities, including training reports and photographic evidence. Additionally, the coordinator will assist in financial tracking and reporting, contribute to technical reports and Letters of Agreement (LoAs), and support the organization of trainings and workshops. Facilitating communication among stakeholders, obtaining necessary clearances, and undertaking other tasks as assigned are also key duties.
Work Experience
A minimum of 3 years of experience in project coordination, aquaculture, or fisheries-related projects is required. Previous experience working with rural fisheries organizations, community-based groups, and fisheries-dependent communities is beneficial. Demonstrated experience in project coordination, procurement, logistics management, and administrative support is expected.
Skills
Key skills include results focus, teamwork, communication, building effective relationships, and knowledge sharing. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, Project, PowerPoint) is essential. Strong planning, coordination, organizational, and time management skills are needed to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines. Experience in fisheries and aquaculture development activities, community engagement, and field-level project implementation is advantageous. Familiarity with the project implementation areas and willingness to travel to project sites are also important.
