Job Purpose
The Communication Liaison Specialist will support the development and implementation of communication, visibility, advocacy, and stakeholder engagement activities to enhance the visibility of FAO programmes and projects in Namibia. The role involves contributing to the preparation and dissemination of communication products, managing media relations, executing digital communications strategies, and leading knowledge-sharing and public outreach initiatives. All activities must align with FAO's corporate communication policies, standards, and strategic priorities, ensuring effective communication of FAO's mission and impact.
Responsibilities
The incumbent will collaborate with the Office of Communications (OCC) and relevant focal points to design and implement a country-specific communication strategy aligned with global and regional guidelines. Responsibilities include developing and executing an annual operational plan, identifying opportunities to enhance FAO's visibility within the UN system and with counterparts, and assessing FAO's participation in interagency forums. The role involves supporting communication-related events, facilitating resource mobilization for agriculture and food security, and analyzing relevant data for communication purposes. Key tasks include producing and disseminating press releases, web articles, newsletters, brochures, and social media content, while ensuring all materials adhere to FAO standards, branding, and clearance processes. The specialist will also promote knowledge sharing, identify key media outlets, tailor media assets for diverse audiences, and perform other duties as required.
Work Experience
A minimum of 3 years of experience in communications and/or public relations or a related field is required. Experience in international cooperation, donor aid programs, government relations, fundraising, or public relations is considered an advantage.
Skills
Proficiency in managing digital platforms, social media, and multimedia production. Experience in organizing stakeholder consultations, advocacy campaigns, and public outreach events. Ability to communicate effectively in multicultural environments and adapt messaging to diverse audiences. Demonstrated skills in managing partner relations and outreach. Excellent communication and writing skills in English. Knowledge of other UN languages is a plus. Core competencies include Results Focus, Teamwork, Communication, Building Effective Relationships, and Knowledge Sharing.
