Organizational Context
The Forestry Division (NFO) leads FAO's work in sustainable forest management, providing leadership on environmental, social, and economic dimensions, including poverty reduction and food security. It engages with Members, civil society, and the private sector on forest policies, conservation, and climate change. NFO collects and disseminates information on forest resources. The Forest and Farm Facility (FFF) Team, a partnership housed in NFO, focuses on climate-resilient landscapes and improved livelihoods, recognizing producer organizations as key agents of change. The position is located in Rome, Italy.
Job Purpose
The incumbent will support effective programme operations, coordination, and delivery. The Data Analyst provides specialized technical expertise in designing, developing, maintaining, and improving consolidated databases and digital platforms. This strengthens programme monitoring, reporting, evaluation, and learning (MEL) systems, and knowledge management. This is achieved by integrating, analysing, and visualizing programme data to generate actionable insights for programme management, reporting, and strategic decision-making. The position also offers operational support in preparing analytical outputs, dashboards, presentations, and communication materials for internal and external audiences.
Responsibilities
The Data Analysis Specialist will provide technical expertise in implementing innovative data management and systems development to strengthen monitoring, evaluation, and learning (MEL) systems, focusing on data integration, analytics, and visualization. They will conduct exploratory data analysis and analytical assessments to identify patterns and trends in forestry-related livelihood activities and their impact on programme outcomes, including data insights and financial dashboards. The specialist will develop, maintain, and optimize integrated databases and data management platforms, ensuring the integration, quality, consistency, and accessibility of programme data across multiple sources and systems. They will also review and enhance qualitative and quantitative technical documentation to improve data quality, consistency, analytical value, and reporting standards. Furthermore, the incumbent will develop data visualizations, analytical dashboards, and communication materials using tools like Power BI, Excel, and Tableau to support the effective dissemination of programme results and evidence-based decision-making.
Work Experience
A minimum of one year of relevant working experience in programme or project support is required, preferably within FAO or U.N. Agencies/organizations.
Skills
Required skills include Results Focus, Teamwork, Communication, Building Effective Relationships, and Knowledge Sharing and Continuous Improvement. Strong organizational, analytical, and writing skills are essential. Familiarity with FAO’s contractual modalities and operational procedures is considered an asset. Limited knowledge (intermediate - level B) of another official FAO language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish) is also an asset.
