Project Coordinator
Organizational Context
The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) Country Offices, led by an FAO Representative, support governments in formulating policies, programs, and projects to achieve food security and reduce hunger. These offices enhance agricultural, fisheries, and forestry sectors, promoting sustainable natural resource use for resilient agrifood systems. In Eritrea, FAO collaborates with ministries to bolster agriculture-based rural livelihoods, focusing on improving productivity, sustainable practices, and food security in alignment with the national development plan. The position is based in Asmara.
Job Purpose
The Project Coordinator will provide essential leadership and coordination for program and project operations within FAO Eritrea. This role is crucial for ensuring the effective planning, implementation, and monitoring of activities aligned with FAO's strategic objectives and the needs of stakeholders. The coordinator will manage project resources, facilitate communication, and support the achievement of project outcomes, contributing to the overall mission of advancing agricultural development and food security in the country. The position requires a proactive approach to problem-solving and a commitment to delivering results.
Responsibilities
Lead the planning and implementation of project activities, ensuring alignment with FAO's strategic objectives, project cycle guidelines, and stakeholder needs. Monitor project budgets, ensuring proper allocation, compliance with financial rules, and proactive resolution of issues. Collect and analyze data on FAO activities in agriculture, forestry, and fisheries, preparing reports and presentations. Assist in developing and implementing work and travel plans, ensuring timely completion and documentation of results. Facilitate effective communication within the project team and liaise with FAO units (Procurement, Finance, HR) to support operations. Coordinate stakeholder engagement and awareness campaigns. Plan and organize technical workshops, training sessions, and field missions. Support monitoring and evaluation frameworks to assess project outcomes and impact. Maintain organized project documentation. Oversee procurement requests for project inputs. Support the preparation of Letters of Agreement and other contractual arrangements. Draft reports and correspondence, maintaining records of activities and expenditures. Execute other related tasks as required.
Work Experience
A minimum of five years of relevant experience in project management is required, with a focus on agriculture or food security-related initiatives. Experience in programming, program implementation, and technical cooperation is essential. The candidate should demonstrate a proven track record in coordinating and supporting project operations and management.

Demonstrated communication skills in English and local languages. Ability to work effectively with multidisciplinary teams. Evidence of completion/exemption from National Services is required.
