The FAO Forestry Division (NFO) leads sustainable forest management, addressing environmental, social, and economic dimensions, including poverty reduction and food security. It engages with partners on forest policies, conservation, and climate change, and disseminates global forest resource data. The Forest and Farm Facility (FFF) Team, a partnership within NFO, focuses on climate-resilient landscapes and improved livelihoods, recognizing producer organizations as key agents of change. This position is in the FFF Team at FAO headquarters in Rome.
Job Purpose
The IT Specialist will support effective programme operations, coordination, and delivery for the Forest and Farm Facility (FFF). This role focuses on ensuring the functionality of IT-related steps within the FFF delivery model. Key responsibilities include the development, maintenance, and administration of Microsoft Power Platform solutions. The incumbent will actively contribute to digital transformation initiatives by implementing workflow automation, thereby enhancing operational efficiency and supporting the FFF's objectives in promoting climate-resilient landscapes and improved livelihoods through technology.
Responsibilities
The incumbent will identify and implement efficiencies, innovation opportunities, and digital transformation pathways. This involves leveraging artificial intelligence, automation, and data analytics, such as process mining, workflow automation, decision-support tools, and low-code AI solutions, to enhance operational effectiveness and user experience. The role requires coordinating regular maintenance, optimization, and AI-enhanced deployment of Microsoft PowerApps solutions, including integration with Power Automate and AI Builder, to ensure reliability, scalability, and continuous improvement. Furthermore, the specialist will consolidate and harmonize datasets from diverse sources, including qualitative data, financial data, GIS, and survey tools. Support will also be provided for the development of project management tools like MS Project, Trello, and Asana. Finally, the incumbent will ensure the compatibility of Microsoft Platforms with other NFO programs supported by the Forest and Farm Facility.
Work Experience
A minimum of two years of relevant professional experience is required in information technology, digital solutions, project management support, or business process improvement. At least one year of this experience should be in programme or project support, preferably within FAO or other U.N. Agencies/organizations. A working knowledge (level C) of English is also essential for this role.
Skills
Core competencies include Results Focus, Teamwork, Communication, Building Effective Relationships, and Knowledge Sharing and Continuous Improvement. Essential technical/functional skills are strong organizational, analytical, and writing abilities. Familiarity with FAO’s contractual modalities and operational procedures is an asset. Demonstrated experience in developing Microsoft Power Platform solutions, including Power Apps and Power Automate, is a significant advantage. Limited knowledge (intermediate - level B) of another official FAO language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, or Spanish) is also considered an asset.
