Job Purpose
The primary purpose of this position is to deliver comprehensive technical, coordination, project, and programme support to the Office of the Chief Economist. This involves aligning all efforts with the specific activities, objectives, and strategic priorities set forth by the Office. The specialist will ensure that initiatives contribute effectively to FAO's broader mission of transforming agrifood systems and addressing global food security challenges, particularly through the lens of economic policy and programme implementation.
Responsibilities
The Senior Policy and Programme Specialist will coordinate and lead the implementation and operational delivery of programme and project activities, ensuring alignment with organizational objectives and donor requirements. This includes facilitating collaboration across technical units to mobilize expertise and strategic partnerships. The role involves designing and implementing policy-related initiatives, such as policy dialogues and multi-stakeholder engagements at various levels, and supporting policy recommendations for sustainable agrifood systems. The specialist will monitor programme implementation, progress against work plans, budgets, and contractual arrangements, contributing to timely reporting for management and funding partners. Key duties also include coordinating administrative processes for project delivery, preparing technical materials and reports, and maintaining effective communication with government counterparts, development partners, and other stakeholders. The incumbent will represent the programme in meetings, contribute to knowledge exchange, and participate in recruitment processes.
Work Experience
A minimum of ten years of relevant working experience is required. This experience should ideally be in project management, policy support, or programme implementation related to food security, nutrition, and agrifood systems, demonstrating a strong track record in coordinating complex initiatives and engaging with diverse stakeholders.
