Junior Food Technologist (2 positions)
Organizational Context
The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) country offices assist governments in developing policies, programs, and projects to achieve food security, reduce hunger and malnutrition, and promote sustainable agricultural, fisheries, and forestry sectors. This position is based in Zugdidi, Georgia, contributing to these overarching goals within the region.
Job Purpose
This role supports the implementation of Farmer Field School (FFS) activities focused on Dairy and Fruit & Vegetable (F&V) processing in Samegrelo Zemo-Svaneti. The incumbent will organize and deliver farmer trainings, field demonstrations, and dissemination events. Key responsibilities include adapting and developing training materials, coordinating with Lead Farmers, conducting monitoring and evaluation, preparing project reports, and assisting with procurement tasks according to the project work plan and FAO procedures.
Responsibilities
Prepare and deliver training sessions for Dairy and F&V Farmer Field Schools. Disseminate project information to farmers in rural communities, explaining the FFS approach. Support the identification and engagement of Lead Farmers and Student Farmers. Collect field activity and survey data using ZOHO, coordinating with M&E specialists. Assist in preparing training materials and presentations, updating curricula based on farmer feedback. Conduct pre- and post-training tests to assess knowledge improvement. Participate in project coordination meetings and propose work plan revisions. Prepare draft narrative reports and visibility materials. Contribute to procurement planning and processes, including technical specifications and proposal reviews. Support the management of storage facilities.
Work Experience
Requires at least one year of practical field experience in food technology or food safety. A university degree in Food Technology is essential. Proficiency in English and Georgian nationality are also required.
Skills
Demonstrated understanding of food technology, particularly dairy and processed fruits and vegetables. Excellent communication skills for clear oral presentations. Strong abilities in community mobilization and interpersonal relations. Effective teamwork and problem-solving skills, with adaptability to field situations. Computer literacy, including spreadsheets and databases, is an asset. Quality of both oral and written communication is essential.
