Job Purpose
The Junior Technical Specialist will provide essential administrative and technical support to facilitate the development and successful implementation of programmes and projects within the FAO Sub-Regional Office for the Caribbean. This role is crucial for ensuring that project activities are effectively planned, executed, and monitored, contributing to the overall objectives of advancing sustainable agri-food systems in the region. The position requires close collaboration with various stakeholders and adherence to FAO's operational standards to achieve project goals and enhance regional resilience.
Responsibilities
Provide technical support for planning and implementing activities related to food security, nutrition, climate change, and environmental sustainability within the Subregional Office for the Caribbean. Conduct desk research to support proposed intervention actions for SLC Projects. Offer technical assistance to SLC Technical and Programme Officers and Consultants by maintaining communication with project teams and providing timely guidance. Collaborate closely with project officers and consultants to follow up on activity planning and implementation, including monitoring and evaluation. Liaise with administrative staff to ensure timely and appropriate oversight of travels, procurement, human resources, and financial transactions, adhering to transparency and best value principles. Support the organization of meetings with government representatives, civil society, regional and international bodies, private sector, and academia. Assist the Programme Team in compiling and maintaining project documentation for the FPMIS page. Support the preparation and monitoring of reports for donors and FAO systems. Coordinate and deliver awareness-building sessions with partners on capacity development areas. Perform other related duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Work Experience
A minimum of one year of progressive professional experience in development projects focused on climate resilience, biodiversity conservation, or sustainable agriculture is required. Experience within the UN system is considered an asset.
Skills
Required skills include Results Focus, Teamwork, Communication, Building Effective Relationships, and Knowledge Sharing and Continuous Improvement. Proficiency in computer literacy and strong analytical and problem-solving abilities are essential. The ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and partners to develop effective working relationships is crucial. Quality of both oral and written communication skills is necessary.
