The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) Representation in Georgia aims to assist the government in developing policies and programs for food security, hunger reduction, and sustainable management of agricultural, fisheries, and forestry resources. This Junior Land Consolidation Specialist position is part of the "Formulation and design of Land Consolidation in Georgia" project (UTF/GEO/034/GEO-F). The project's goal is to introduce a functional land consolidation instrument in Georgia, integrated with irrigation rehabilitation under the World Bank's GRAIL Project, to enhance agricultural production, land and water use efficiency, land markets, credit access, and land rights.
Job Purpose
The incumbent will provide essential technical support for the successful implementation of the UTF Project, with a primary focus on all land consolidation-related activities. This role is crucial for advancing the project's objectives, which include improving farm structures through reduced fragmentation, facilitating farm enlargement, and contributing to local agricultural development. The position will also support the integration of agricultural development with broader environmental and climate change adaptation goals, ultimately contributing to a National Land Consolidation Strategy, legal framework assessment, pilot project implementation, and capacity building for future land consolidation programs in Georgia.
Responsibilities
The Junior Land Consolidation Specialist will assist in operational tasks for the FAO Land Consolidation team and the Land Management Agency (LMA). Responsibilities include supporting the implementation of land consolidation activities under the GRAIL Project, ensuring timely delivery of outputs and adherence to workplans. The role involves facilitating communication and coordination among the LMA, MEPA, the GRAIL irrigation component, and the FAO Team. The specialist will support the preparation and updating of detailed workplans, assist in organizing progress review meetings, and maintain a centralized project documentation database. Additionally, the incumbent will contribute to experience capitalization, organize trainings and workshops for stakeholders, assist in planning international missions, coordinate field activities, and prepare technical reports and deliverables as required.
Work Experience
Minimum of 1 year of relevant experience in land administration, GIS, agriculture, law, or a related area.
Skills
Proficiency in computer literacy, including spreadsheets, databases, data management, and Microsoft Office Programs. Excellent communication and coordination skills are essential. A basic understanding of land governance, tenure systems, and legal frameworks related to land administration is an asset. Experience with international organizations, government agencies, or development partners is desirable, as is experience working with rural communities and farmers. Strong communication, negotiation, and leadership skills are also valued.
