Organizational Context
The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), in partnership with the Government of Malawi and funded by the Green Climate Fund (GCF), is implementing the Ecosystem-based Adaptation for Resilient Watersheds and Communities in Malawi (EbAM) project. This initiative aims to bolster the climate resilience of vulnerable ecosystems and communities through integrated watershed management and diversified agricultural value chains. The project spans six years, covering 11 districts in Malawi, and seeks to benefit over 500,000 people while restoring significant land areas and achieving emission reductions.
Job Purpose
The Graphics Designer will be responsible for creating and developing a range of communication and visibility materials to enhance the project's outreach. This includes designing templates and artworks for various products such as project banners, posters, t-shirts, work suits, caps, booklets, newsletters, and infographics. The role requires translating project messages into visually appealing and effective designs that align with the project's visual identity and communication objectives, ensuring clarity and impact across all designed materials.
Responsibilities
The Graphics Designer will collaborate closely with Office of Communications (OCC) branches and relevant Communication focal points to produce functional and clear design templates that effectively convey product messages. Responsibilities include identifying and developing suitable overall layouts for different product types, consulting with publication editors to ensure designs are appropriate for the intended audience from technical, professional, and cultural perspectives. The incumbent will submit design proposals for supervisor approval and perform up to three rounds of corrections based on quality checks, with additional rounds required if initial corrections are overlooked.
Work Experience
A minimum of 5 years of professional experience in graphics design is required. Experience working with the United Nations or other international organizations in a graphics design capacity is highly desirable. This experience should demonstrate a strong portfolio of design work and the ability to meet project communication needs.
