Due Diligence and Risk Assessment Specialist

Organizational Context

The Project Support Division (PSS) is responsible for corporate guidance on the Project Cycle, project monitoring, Technical Cooperation Programme (TCP), New Operational Modalities, and Due Diligence. PSS ensures these contribute to the Strategic Framework and Sustainable Development Goals. The Due Diligence and Risk Assessment Unit within PSS conducts screening and risk assessment for partnerships with non-state actors, adhering to FAO's Framework for Due Diligence and Risk Assessment/Management for Engagements (FRAME).

Job Purpose

This role involves specialized research and analysis for Due Diligence and Risk Assessment (DDRA) of complex proposed collaborations. The specialist will apply the "FRAME" methodology, guidelines, procedures, and digital tools to evaluate potential partnerships. The purpose is to ensure that engagements align with FAO's risk management standards and contribute effectively to the organization's objectives, supporting informed decision-making in partnership development and risk mitigation.

Responsibilities

Conduct due diligence and risk assessment (DDRA) screenings for proposed engagements with the private sector and other non-State actors (NSAs) according to "FRAME." Review screening requests and assess mandatory documentation, including financial statements. Perform in-depth research using various information sources to support screening and risk assessment of prospective entity engagement proposals, including data and analytics interpretation. Analyze and map complex ownership, governance, and relationship structures. Prepare evidence-based screenings on the FAO digital platform, identifying risk factors. Provide technical advice and contribute to refining DDRA methodologies, guidelines, procedures, and digital tools. Conduct screenings across different operational contexts, including for FAO Implementing Partners and event/logo use cases. Support training and capacity development activities related to DDRA. Participate in DDRA-related meetings and review screenings prepared by other analysts. Provide support to ongoing, planned, and new DDRA activities as needed.

Work Experience

At least three years of relevant professional experience as a due diligence or risk assessment analyst. Experience in a professional environment is essential. Familiarity with international contexts and UN systems is an asset.

Skills

Strong technical and analytical skills in research, information organization, and data analysis for due diligence and risk assessment. Familiarity with ESG Risk Ratings services (e.g., Sustainalytics, RepRisk). Knowledge of UN frameworks for prospect research, due diligence, UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights, UN Global Compact, and Anti-money Laundering. Detail-oriented with excellent report-writing skills in English. Ability to work with information systems and diverse individuals. Experience in applying due diligence and risk assessment approaches, preferably within the UN system. Proven ability to analyze multiple data sources, identify ESG and corporate risks, and present findings clearly. Experience with digital due diligence platforms is desirable.
