Organizational Context

Job Purpose
The Senior Driver is responsible for providing safe and efficient transportation for Country Office staff, visitors, and high-ranking officials of the FAO Representation in Sierra Leone. This role includes meeting and assisting international personnel with airport formalities, ensuring the optimal condition and safety of assigned vehicles, and maintaining accurate records of trips, mileage, and expenses. The Senior Driver also performs messenger services, delivering and collecting documents and items, and may assist with basic clerical duties. Additionally, the incumbent is expected to support corporate environmental initiatives and train junior drivers.
Responsibilities
Drive the Head of Office, visitors, and other staff members, including high-ranking officials, ensuring their safety and comfort. Meet official personnel and visitors at the airport, facilitating immigration, customs, and hotel check-in. Ensure the FAO Representative's transportation needs are consistently met, maintaining the safety, technical soundness, and cleanliness of assigned vehicles. Log all official trips, daily mileage, fuel consumption, and vehicle-related expenses, assisting administrative staff with monitoring maintenance records. Perform day-to-day vehicle maintenance, including checking fluids, tires, and performing minor repairs, and arrange for necessary servicing. Handle all organizational and local procedures in case of an accident. Collect and deliver mail, documents, and other items to various locations, including post offices, airports, government agencies, and project sites. Provide basic clerical support, such as answering phones and making photocopies. Brief and train junior drivers on their duties and responsibilities. Support corporate environmental responsibility strategies to reduce emissions and enhance efficiency. Perform other related duties as required.
Work Experience
A minimum of four years of professional experience as a driver is required. Experience driving for a Head of Office within a UN agency, INGO, embassy, or diplomatic mission is considered an asset. A strong understanding of local driving rules and regulations, along with skills in minor vehicle repair, is necessary.
Skills
Proficiency in safe driving practices, with a good sense of direction and knowledge of local conditions. Ability to perform minor vehicle repairs and ensure day-to-day maintenance. Excellent punctuality and reliability. Demonstrated discretion and confidentiality when handling sensitive information and movements of senior officials. Strong situational awareness and personal security mindset. Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills, with a courteous and respectful approach. Basic digital literacy, including familiarity with smartphones, GPS/navigation apps, and simple digital tools for communication and record-keeping. Ability to cope with extended working hours.
