Finance Specialist
Organizational Context
The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) supports the transformation to more efficient, inclusive, resilient, and sustainable agrifood systems. The Shared Services Centre (SSC) in Budapest, Hungary, manages processes, ensures quality assurance, and drives service excellence through standardization and automation. This position is based within the FAO Shared Services Centre.
Job Purpose
The Finance Specialist, under the direct supervision of the National Officer, is responsible for the accurate and efficient processing of transactions within the Accounts Payables function. This role involves managing payment batches, investigating and resolving discrepancies, and ensuring compliance with financial regulations. The incumbent will play a key part in maintaining smooth financial operations and contributing to the continuous improvement of AP processes within the FAO Shared Services Centre.
Responsibilities
Execute Electronic Fund Transfer payment batches, including transaction review, error investigation, and corrective actions. Monitor and manage returned payments, review banking instructions, and create re-payment invoices. Liaise with the corporate bank to resolve payment issues. Generate payment batches and submit Agency Service requests to UNDP offices. Follow up on deselected or rejected invoices during the payment process. Actively contribute to system improvements and participate in related projects. Respond to inquiries regarding invoice processing via Service Now and Teams. Report any irregularities or discrepancies to the Supervisor. Maintain regular follow-up on aged AP items. Assist in the preparation of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Perform other duties as assigned.
Work Experience
A minimum of 1 year of relevant experience in Finance is required. Experience with ERP systems and proficiency in MS Office applications are beneficial.
Skills
Core competencies include Results Focus, Teamwork, Communication, Building Effective Relationships, and Knowledge Sharing and Continuous Improvement. Functional skills include knowledge of communication and documentation standards. Proficiency in MS Office and Oracle ERP or similar systems is required. Knowledge of another FAO official language is an asset.
