Organizational Context
The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) is a United Nations agency dedicated to eradicating hunger and promoting food security globally. Established in 1978, the FAO Representation in Bangladesh supports national efforts in agriculture, food, forestry, fisheries, livestock, rural development, and climate change. Bangladesh, a densely populated delta nation, faces significant challenges including population growth, resource scarcity, natural disasters, and climate change. The Diversified Resilient Agriculture for Improved Food and Nutrition Security (RAINS) project, supported by GAFSP and IFAD, aims to enhance rural household resilience to environmental and economic shocks through improved nutrition and income generation.
Job Purpose
The Junior Programme Support Assistant will play a crucial role in supporting the RAINS project's implementation by facilitating key activities. This includes organizing and coordinating training sessions, workshops, and market linkage initiatives, with a specific emphasis on nutrition-sensitive agriculture, women's empowerment, and youth engagement. The incumbent will also contribute to essential project management functions such as monitoring progress, capturing data and lessons learned, and supporting communication efforts. This role is vital for ensuring the project effectively achieves its objectives in building resilience and improving livelihoods for vulnerable households in Bangladesh.
Responsibilities
The incumbent will provide essential support to the RAINS project, focusing on Component 1 (Nutrition-Sensitive Agricultural Production) and Component 2 (Market Linkage and Off-Farm Diversification). This involves assisting in the organization of meetings, workshops, and training sessions for farmers, with a special focus on women and youth. Responsibilities include preparing training materials, handouts, and presentations to enhance knowledge and practices in nutrition and improve the socio-economic status of women. The role also entails supporting the promotion of tailored off-farm income-generating activities for women and youth and coordinating with the RAINS Project Management Unit. Furthermore, the incumbent will assist in monitoring and evaluation tasks, capturing data and lessons learned for policy engagement, and supporting project communications, including activities related to the "International Year of the Woman Farmer."
Work Experience
A minimum of one year of relevant experience in Agriculture, Food Science, the Development sector, or a related field is necessary. Experience in supporting project activities is also beneficial.
Skills
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, email, internet) is essential. The candidate should possess strong communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to build effective relationships and contribute to knowledge sharing.
