Supply Chain Expert
Organizational Context
The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations supports Member Countries and Partners in disaster and crisis preparedness and response, focusing on agriculture, food security, and food safety. FAO's Logistics Services Division (CSL) provides global supply chain strategies, policies, and guidance to FAO offices, strengthening systems for efficient and timely delivery of assistance. CSL aims to enhance operational efficiency and service delivery in support of FAO's mandate. This call is for roster inclusion to support high-visibility assignments in supply chain expansion and orchestration.
Job Purpose
This role focuses on specialized supply chain design, coordination, process improvement, and capacity development. The objective is to support FAO's initiatives for expanding and orchestrating its global supply chains. The position requires providing expert technical input to enhance end-to-end supply chain planning, coordination, and performance monitoring. It involves contributing to the refinement of supply chain processes, tools, and operating procedures, adapting them to emerging operational needs. The role also encompasses conducting operational diagnostics, identifying bottlenecks, and proposing practical improvements to optimize supply chain functions and ensure effective support for FAO's mandate.
Responsibilities
Lead defined workstreams within broader supply chain initiatives with a high degree of independence. Provide specialized technical input for end-to-end supply chain planning, coordination, and performance monitoring. Contribute to the design and refinement of supply chain processes, tools, and operating procedures, adapting them to operational needs. Conduct operational diagnostics and process mapping to identify bottlenecks and propose improvements. Support change management and rollout activities, including stakeholder engagement and transition planning. Assist in system enhancements by gathering user needs, drafting requirements, and supporting user adoption. Design and deliver training and capacity development activities, such as workshops and coaching. Document lessons learned and best practices for knowledge products. Provide technical guidance to junior personnel as needed. Undertake any other related tasks assigned by the Supervisor.
Work Experience
A minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience in supply chain, logistics, operations, or related areas is required, preferably within the UN system. Working knowledge of English (Level C) is essential.
Skills
Solid experience in end-to-end supply chain and logistics management, including planning, coordination, transport, warehousing, and emergency logistics. Demonstrated ability to provide specialized technical input for supply chain design, process improvement, and capacity development. Experience in process mapping, analysis, and improvement, adapting supply chain concepts to operational needs. Strong competence in data analysis, performance management, and data utilization (advanced Excel; dashboarding desirable). Ability to translate operational problems into structured, practical recommendations. Strong facilitation and stakeholder management skills. Experience supporting project or operational budgets is beneficial. Familiarity with humanitarian or development supply chain contexts is an asset. Knowledge of other FAO official languages is preferred. Proven record of delivering complex analysis and actionable recommendations independently. Experience in training development or change management is an asset.
