Organizational Context
The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) is a specialized agency dedicated to achieving food security for all and leading international efforts to defeat hunger. FAO supports the transformation to efficient, inclusive, resilient, and sustainable agrifood systems globally. For over four decades, FAO has partnered with the Philippine government and local organizations to address challenges in agriculture, fisheries, and forestry, focusing on sustainability, modernization, and resilience to natural disasters and conflict. The organization is currently implementing a project in Cagayan province to rebuild agricultural livelihoods affected by recent cyclones.
Job Purpose
The Project Field Coordinator is essential for providing technical and coordination support in executing field activities for the 'Rebuilding Agricultural Livelihoods affected by Multiple Cyclones in Cagayan Province' project. This role is critical in ensuring the project's objectives are met at the community level. The coordinator will facilitate the implementation of recovery and rehabilitation efforts, working closely with local government units, community leaders, and partner organizations to enhance project effectiveness and contribute to the resilience of affected farming and fishing communities.
Responsibilities
Supervise the implementation of cash-based and capacity-building initiatives within the 'Rebuilding Agricultural Livelihoods affected by Multiple Cyclones in Cagayan Province' project, coordinating with local government units and beneficiaries. Conduct regular field visits to monitor the progress of grant support activities, particularly those involving women-led organizations. Provide technical and coordination support for disaster risk reduction and management (DRRM) and enterprise capacity-building activities. Contribute technical inputs for activity concept notes and proposals, ensuring community context alignment. Offer technical guidance to government partners and stakeholders for project implementation. Develop strategic recommendations to improve community-level project execution. Maintain consistent communication with local government units, community leaders, and partner organizations. Assist in preparing training materials, presentations, and practical exercises. Support resource speakers during training sessions by organizing group activities, facilitating discussions, and managing practical demonstrations and field activities. Maintain a database of beneficiaries, participants, materials, and outcomes for reporting and knowledge management. Perform other related duties as assigned.
Work Experience
Requires at least five (5) years of relevant field experience in emergency response and recovery operations, disaster risk reduction, and agriculture/fisheries support initiatives.
Skills
Key competencies include Results Focus, Teamwork, Communication, Building Effective Relationships, and Knowledge Sharing. Essential technical skills involve demonstrated experience with project logical frameworks, performance monitoring, and M&E systems. Statistical skills for data analysis are required. Proficiency in KoboCollect, Tableau, Power BI, and MS Office suite is necessary. Excellent written and oral communication skills in English and Tagalog are essential. Familiarity with FAO operational procedures and the ability to communicate in Ilocano are advantageous.
