Supply Chain Specialist
Organizational Context
The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations supports Member Countries and Partners in preparing for and responding to disasters and crises affecting agriculture, food security, and food safety. FAO's Logistics Services Division (CSL) provides global logistics and supply chain strategies, policies, and guidance to FAO offices. CSL strengthens logistics and supply chain systems to ensure efficient, accountable, and timely delivery of assistance, supporting FAO's mandate and operational practices.
Job Purpose
This role provides essential operational and analytical support for supply chain planning, coordination, documentation, and capacity development activities. The specialist will contribute to the effective functioning of FAO's supply chain operations by assisting with data management, process documentation, and the development of training materials. The position aims to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of supply chain initiatives, ensuring timely support for FAO programs and operations globally. This is a key support function for complex, high-visibility assignments related to the expansion and orchestration of FAO supply chains.
Responsibilities
Provide analytical and technical support for supply chain initiatives, adhering to established methods and procedures under supervision. Collect, analyze, and report on supply chain performance, processes, and activities. Maintain tracking and reporting tools, generate status updates, and resolve data inconsistencies. Assist in documenting processes, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), guidance materials, and training content. Support training and capacity development activities through material preparation and logistical coordination. Coordinate administrative and knowledge management tasks, including filing and document version control. Perform other related tasks as assigned by the supervisor to ensure the smooth operation of supply chain functions.
Work Experience
A minimum of one year of relevant professional experience in supply chain, logistics, operations, or related areas is required. Experience within the United Nations system is preferred. This experience should complement the educational qualifications.
Skills
Foundational knowledge of end-to-end supply chain and logistics management, including planning, coordination, transport, warehousing, and emergency logistics. Ability to provide analytical, technical, and operational support. Aptitude for data collection, basic analysis, and reporting. Skill in supporting the preparation of process documentation and training materials. Good communication and teamwork skills for effective collaboration in multicultural environments. Ability to follow guidance, manage tasks, and meet deadlines. Familiarity with humanitarian or development operations is an asset. Strong analytical skills and ability to learn quickly are essential.
