Organizational Context
The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) is dedicated to defeating hunger and achieving food security globally, ensuring access to quality food for healthy lives. Operating in over 130 countries with more than 195 Members, FAO believes in collective action to end hunger. The Internship Programme seeks motivated young individuals to contribute fresh perspectives and academic insights to FAO's mission, fostering a practical learning experience aligned with sustainable agri-food systems.
Job Purpose
The Internship Programme aims to attract talented young women and men who are strongly motivated to share their new perspectives, innovative ideas, and latest academic experience in FAO’s domains. The Programme provides a learning opportunity to the participants to supplement their academic knowledge with a practical work assignment in a field related to the work of FAO. Through the FAO internship experience, interns will contribute to the UN Sustainable Development Goals and FAO's Strategic Framework to support the 2030 Agenda through the transformation to MORE efficient, inclusive, resilient and sustainable agri-food systems for better production, better nutrition, a better environment, and a better life, leaving no one behind. The intern will be assigned to different fields of work according to his/her profile and to the needs of the Organization.
Responsibilities
The intern will perform functions as specified in the Terms of Reference (TOR) prepared by the hiring office. This involves contributing to projects and tasks relevant to the intern's academic background and the Organization's needs. Interns are expected to apply their academic knowledge in a practical setting, supporting FAO's mission and strategic framework. Responsibilities will be tailored to the intern's profile and the specific requirements of the assigned department or project, ensuring a valuable learning experience and a meaningful contribution to FAO's work towards sustainable agri-food systems and the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals.
Work Experience
No specific prior work experience is mandated. However, candidates are expected to be enrolled in or have recently graduated from an undergraduate or graduate degree program in a relevant field. The internship itself provides the practical work assignment to supplement academic knowledge. Adaptability to an international, multicultural environment and good communication skills are essential.
Skills
Key competencies include Results Focus, Teamwork, Communication, Building Effective Relationships, and Knowledge Sharing and Continuous Improvement. Candidates should possess relevant academic studies in fields aligned with FAO's mission. Adherence to FAO Values (Commitment to FAO, Respect for All, Integrity and Transparency) is expected.
