Job Purpose

The Internship Programme at FAO headquarters in Rome aims to attract talented young women and men who are eager to contribute their new perspectives, innovative ideas, and latest academic experience to the Organization's domains. This programme provides a valuable learning opportunity, allowing participants to supplement their academic knowledge with practical work assignments relevant to FAO's mission. Interns will contribute to achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals and FAO's Strategic Framework, supporting the transformation towards more efficient, inclusive, resilient, and sustainable agri-food systems for better production, nutrition, environment, and overall quality of life, ensuring no one is left behind.

Responsibilities

The intern will be assigned to various fields of work based on their profile and the Organization's needs. Specific duties will be detailed in the Terms of Reference (TOR) prepared by the hiring office. This will involve performing functions aligned with the TOR, contributing to ongoing projects and initiatives within FAO. The role requires active participation and application of academic knowledge to practical tasks, supporting the broader objectives of the department or unit to which the intern is assigned. Interns are expected to engage with their supervisors and colleagues, contributing to a collaborative work environment and gaining practical experience in international development and food security.

Work Experience

No specific prior work experience is required beyond the educational qualifications. Candidates are expected to be enrolled in or have recently graduated from an undergraduate or graduate degree program. The focus is on academic background and potential to learn and contribute within a practical work setting. Adaptability to an international, multicultural environment and good communication skills are essential.
