Organizational Context

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) is dedicated to defeating hunger and achieving food security globally, operating in over 130 countries. The Fellows Programme aims to attract individuals, typically PhD students, researchers, or professors, with advanced technical knowledge and experience. Fellows contribute their expertise to FAO's mission, aligning assignments with UN Sustainable Development Goals and FAO's Strategic Framework to foster sustainable agri-food systems for better production, nutrition, environment, and life, ensuring no one is left behind.

Job Purpose

The primary purpose of this fellowship is to provide a structured learning opportunity for individuals to deepen their understanding and contribute to FAO's mandate. Fellows will be assigned to specific fields of work based on their academic profile, research interests, and the Organization's operational needs. This role is designed to foster specialized learning objectives while enabling fellows to apply their technical knowledge and skills to real-world challenges within FAO's diverse areas of expertise. The experience aims to enhance the fellow's professional development and contribute meaningfully to FAO's ongoing projects and strategic initiatives.

Responsibilities

The fellow will undertake specific tasks and responsibilities as outlined in the Terms of Reference (TOR) provided by the designated hiring office. This will involve applying their specialized knowledge and research skills to support FAO's work in areas aligned with their profile and the Organization's priorities. Responsibilities may include conducting research, data analysis, contributing to project development, preparing reports, and participating in relevant meetings and activities. The fellow is expected to actively engage in their assigned duties, demonstrating initiative and a commitment to achieving the objectives set forth in their TOR, thereby contributing to the overall goals of the FAO and its member states.

Work Experience

A minimum of two years of relevant working or research experience in one of the fields relevant to FAO's mandate is required. Candidates must also possess working knowledge of at least one FAO official language (Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian, or Spanish).
